Thinking About Golf? Here Are Some Considerations

Golf is a strange game. Everybody sets out to have a relaxing day with colleagues or friends. It's a time to unwind and get away from the stress of everyday life. However, too many of us find ourselves using profanity, wanting to throw our golf clubs in a lake, and swearing that we will never play again.

If you're like me, you can't pay top dollar for quality golf instruction. Most of us teach ourselves how to play. We make an adjustment here and an adjustment there. We will ask our playing partners what we are doing wrong. The best is when a weekend golfer hits bad tee shot and does one of these numbers..."I know what I'm doing wrong. I'm not keeping my head down." Yeah, that's it, along with everything else in your swing.

In addition to your golf swing, the golf course you choose to play at could affect your score. Golf courses range in difficulty. My advice would be to find the easiest golf course in your area and play that course as often as you can. This will enable you to read the greens better, get better yardage readings, and feel more comfortable on the course.

Speaking of comfort, golf shoes are another important consideration. More than likely, you are going to have to do some walking. Even if you are riding on a cart, chances are, you and your playing partner are not going to hit the ball in the same area. If your shoes are comfortable, then your day will not end with blisters and/or sore feet.

Let me end by saying this...For a weekend or part-time golfer, your golf swing should not keep you from having fun. Understand that you probably are not going to shoot par. Have fun, enjoy the company you are with, and try to improve each time you play. Even a slight improvement will give you more confidence. If you don't make it to scratch golf status, don't sweat it. Keep playing and make having fun your number one priority.
